Procurement policy

SFP checks the legality of timber or timber products you source by implementing a procurement policy enforcing a preference for certified timber and timber products. This ensures the product is responsibly, lawfully and sustainably sourced.

Due diligence

Be vigilant about the risks of illegal timber in your supply chain. SFP has an enhanced due diligence systems in place if timber and timber products are not covered by a third part certificate. The supplier we select shall be able to verify and demonstrate the origin of the sourcing.

The two most important steps in specifying tropical hardwoods are :
  • to become knowledgeable about the international supply chain and
  • to find a responsible supplier.
SFP has gathered information to help you with both.

A significant step change in the protection of tropical rainforests has been achieved in the adoption of EU regulation through a collaborative multi-stakeholder approach in Indonesia – the first country to operate under a FLEGT license. The EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) and the EU’s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) initiative are EU regulations which prohibit the importation of illegally logged timber within the EU.
